You do NOT need to move the mouse to see if a computer is currently running on Windows or Linux.

If the screensaver is Full-Screen and changing without a transition, it is running on Linux.
If it is running on Windows, the screensaver will be smaller and changes position when a new images loads.
Armed with this new information you no longer have to walk around tapping every single mouse to find out!
