Maya will not allow me to delete keys

Hi, I have been having an issue for a while now where Maya will not allow me to delete keys. I thought this problem might be specific to my own project but it is continuing to be a problem even when I switch over to other rigs and other projects. Any help you can give me would be appreciated.

Student was referencing in an already keyed rig which is why keys could not be deleted.
