multiple jobs resubmitted jamming up farm

Postby dhernand on Mar 16th, '15, 10:42

There are multiple jobs, especially semmer21, that have been resubmitted multiple times over the course of almost 24 hours (since 4:30am). This is taking up nodes that priority 6 jobs should have for rendering. It\'s also jamming up the farm so that others have to wait. Please help fix this.

Jobs are rendered in the order they're submitted, with priority given to jobs that will take less time overall to render. Sometimes, an error occurs on a render node, in which case that frame will be re-submitted. This is because often times temporary network outages, problems with a specific system, or other factors can cause a frame to fail on one node but succeed on a subsequent render attempt on a different node. To prevent incorrectly set up jobs from using resources that could be allocated to other jobs, if more than a certain number of errors (I believe the limit is 15) occur on one job, that job will automatically be cancelled.

Over the past few days, the network has experienced unusual strain due to finals, and so jobs have been taking longer to render. This strain also means more frames have failed due to problems mounting or maintaining a connection to network drives. Because of this, it is common to see a job with many resubmitted frames, or to see jobs submitted multiple times.

I hope this information is helpful.

Best,
Will
